Turning from the others, Dalia slowly moved to one of the chairs near her bed, on the opposite side of the room.

Weak-kneed, she sank onto the seat.

Her mind spun. Viciously. Unceasing.

The bloom of self-doubt in her stomach roiled with accompanied nausea. Slight tremors shook Dalia to the core.

The wolves claimed to have proof of her committing horrible deeds.

And, though nearly everything inside Dalia refused to believe she could have done what the wolves claimed, a question had been growing in the back of her mind.

Curdling in the pit of her gut.

What if she had?

Heat flushed her body. She shook harder.

She wanted to throw up, but somehow held it back.

The others continued to speak, quiet but angry, concerning the status of some missing people.

It was only when Dalia caught Jordan’s unlikely defense of her, did she pay closer attention.

His words were toneless as he stated, “The vision is not clear proof of anything. There’s no possibility of Dalia as traitor. There’s no way she could have helped, being here in the castle this entire time.”

They continued to talk, but Dalia tuned them out once more.

Took a few deep breaths.

Did it matter why Jordan thought her innocent—at least of this—as long as she had someone on her side?

And why did heat suddenly rise in her belly, shoving away the nausea. Pushing away her self-doubts.

Dalia stiffened, focused her thoughts.

No.

She might not be able to remember her time with Thomas Montgomery, but she couldn’t have done the things the wolves claimed.

Dalia knew with certainty she didn’t have anything to do with what was happening now.

The small, blonde woman clutching Jordan like a lifeline stared at her.

Swallowing past the hot lump in her throat, Dalia refused to look away.

The giant blond guard also looked her over. At least his expression held a question. Mostly undecided.

Jordan glanced at her too, his eyes dark. Unreadable.

Dalia’s breath caught in her chest.

She wanted to deny everything. But the words were trapped.

Did he truly believe her not guilty?

She straightened her back. Lifted her chin. Stared them all down.

Brandon was the first to finally look away. He turned back to the woman at Jordan’s side. “What about Eric? Can you see him?”

She shook her head. Pulled her hand from Jordan and twisted her fists in her skirt.

Jordan stood, his face once more an expressionless mask. “We will find Eric. We will find them all.”

The woman rubbed her temples. Her blue eyes flashed with a barely concealed malice. That one certainly thought Dalia guilty.

Jordan grasped the woman’s arm and helped her stand, then led her toward the door. “Dalia, we’ll speak more later,” he stated tonelessly, before disappearing.

Out in the hall, the woman’s whispered words drifted back to the room. “Beware my earlier caution, brothair. Do not forget Moira and all she cost us.”

Brandon swept Dalia with a dark look, then slowly made his way to the door.

Desperate for peace, and quiet, to think all of this through, she stood. Followed him toward her door.

Before Dalia could close it, Brandon pierced her with a sharp look.
